August 2019: Whaley Bridge/Toddbrook Dam damage
The Toddbrook dam was severely damaged by floodwater after very heavy rain early in August 2019 and threatened to collapse with extreme risk to life if it had failed. TdPD and other routes in the Cycling in the Peak District guidebook are thought to be unaffected as a result of this incident, but as ever if you come across something on the ground, please let my publishers at Cicerone Press know.
2024 Dam repairs are still ongoing (and now thought to last until autumn 2025) so it may be worth paying attention to Derbyshire roadworks info in case roads have to be shut during this time to facilitate repairs.
This page lists accommodation within a reasonable distance of the Tour de Peak District cycle route.
At the moment it is not a “recommended” list of particularly cycle friendly accommodation as such (although where I am aware of an establishment being cycle friendly I will try and mention this in the description). Rather, it’s a list of places reasonably near the route. NB In the north-east section, some of the nearest available accommodation I’m aware of is some distance from the route – but hopefully including them is still useful for route planning!
If you stay at any of these locations, please mention that you found them here. I’d also really appreciate any feedback as to whether any individual place is good or bad for cyclists as that helps us all 🙂
